Philosophy means how people seek to understand truths about themselves, the world in which they live in, and their relationships to the world and to each other. As a mathematics teacher, I want my students to look at this in terms of math. I want to help students understand math and how it is used in the world around them. I want to create a classroom where my students will be the best mathematicians they can be.
My philosophy and hopes for teaching mathematics to young learners is based on preparing students to become lifelong learners. My goal as a mathematics teacher is to provide the best materials for my students and to help them and guide them to be the best learners for their entire lifetime.
I can provide the best materials in my classroom for my students by creating multiple lessons using every mathematic tool I have learned to use from my time at the Mount. Technology plays a huge role in learning mathematics. I have learned many softwares and applications that I found helpful that I can use in my very own classroom. These tools like Desmos, Geogebra, LaTex, Mathematica, R, and Excel will all benefit students to learn and understand many different mathematic concepts. The softwares and applications allow for a hands-on and visual representation of learning mathematics in a creative learning environment.
It is important for students to be self-sufficient and responsible for their own learning. I want to create a classroom where students can try new things on a regular basis and ask questions when they are confused. I have learned that by working collaborative in small groups that students feel more comfortable learning with their peers and can also help teach each other. As a mathematics teacher, I will have goals set for my students, but also have them create their own goals for themselves. Setting goals shows improvement and it is important for me to see my student’s growth, but also important for students to see their own growth for themselves. It will be my goal as a mathematics teacher for my self and my classroom that I do everything I can to help all students become lifelong learners.
